About this doll

'Stephanie' wears a cream gown trimmed with pink roses and long gloves. She is the work of Lynn Harrison and was entered in a D.A.G competition.

Her real charm is in the view from behind: a wine-colored ribbon falling from the waist, roses made one by one by hand, and layer upon layer of ruffles and lace. She was designed to be admired from every angle, a full 360 degrees; not simply a doll in a pretty dress but a complete work of art, front and back.

Background

D.A.G competitions judge dollmaking and costuming separately. The costume category assesses historical accuracy, the precision of cutting and sewing and the harmony between dress and doll, and has its own awards such as the Louise Hedrick Costuming Award. Judging follows a fixed score sheet, so that entrants can look at their work objectively through the judges' comments.

Lynn Harrison is a porcelain doll artist working in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. This collection holds several of her dolls, from antique reproductions (the parians, Nos. 27 and 28) to modern dolls (Liberace, No. 20, and Elouise, No. 23) and the couples made with her mother Shirley Lloyd (Nos. 21 and 22), showing the range of one artist's work.
